Serbia as "hostage to EU indecisiveness" - Slovenian MEP

"Serbia is a hostage to the EU's indecisive policy in terms of enlargement," the Slovenian politician, also a member of the Group of the European People's Party and the vice president of Friends of Serbia, told Monday's edition of the Belgrade-based daily Blic.

He added that, by opening negotiation chapters this year, the EU would give support to everything good Serbia is doing on its EU path.

It is high time that the EU sent a clear political position on the Western Balkans - that its goal is enlargement to that particular region, Bogovic noted.

He stressed that Serbia is a hostage to many neighboring politicians as well, primarily the ones from Kosovo, which obviously has its own internal issues, so it puts barriers in front of Serbia with whom it has not reached any political agreement yet.

"I welcome the strong pro-European orientation of the Serbian government, its commitment to reforms, stability and regional reconciliation," Bogovic said, adding he would like the EU to send a stronger signal to Serbia for its full-fledged membership.
