Kiev calls for ban of concert by Kusturica's band

The gig is scheduled to coincide with the 1000th anniversary of the death of Prince Vladimir the Great, and is considered problematic "because of Kusturica's open support to Russia and the annexation of Crimea."

Sputnik writes that Kusturica, who won two Golden Palms in Cannes for his movies, plays bass and is the founder of the "No Smoking Orchestra" band, strongly supports Russia "and the reunification of Crimea and Russia."

"Last April," the article noted, "the Ukrainian authorities canceled a concert by Serb musician Goran Bregovic and his 'Orchestra for Weddings and Funerals' because of his decision to previously perform in Crimea."
