"Difficult times ahead of Greece and Eurozone"

He said that the democratic will of the Greek voters must be respected, but also the will of the voters from 18 other Eurozone members to support the austerity program.

"Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras thinks he has improved his negotiating position, but it is not true," said Schulz, and added:

“The promise of the minister of finance that the banks will open tomorrow and that money will be available for tomorrow and Tuesday seems to me very difficult and dangerous."

The EP president said that consideration should be given to a program humanitarian aid for Greece because "it is not right that pensioners, children and the sick suffer because of the decisions of the Greek government."

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said in a statement to the media intensive consultations with representatives of the European central bank chiefs of the other European institutions are ongoing, and that they will on Monday hold a telephone conference.

Greece will be discuss today in Paris by French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, while British Prime Minister David Cameron has scheduled an emergency meeting with advisors and key ministers.
