State of personal data protection on internet "worrying"

At a press conference, Sabic presented a report on oversight over the implementation of the law on personal data protection, which identified a lack of normative regulation and suitable measures as the cause of the unsatisfactory situation in the field, which is the responsibility of the state.

Sabic said that he will send to the government and the parliament a proposal of recommendations aimed at tackling these issues.

He added that he recommends the adoption of a new strategy on personal data protection, an action plan for adopting the strategy, a new personal data protection law and amendments to the law on electronic communications.

Legislation must be amended to establish a system for lawful interception of electronic communications and access to retained information, which calls for setting up a national centre where all relevant state authorities would submit requests for intercepting information, the commissioner said.
