Two convicted for crime committed in Croatia in 1991

The War Crimes Department of the Belgrade Higher Court has sentenced two former members of the Militia and Territorial Defense of Sotin, a village in Croatia.

Two convicted for crime committed in Croatia in 1991

The crime took place in the period from mid-October until the end of 1991 in this village near Vukovar.

The three suspects have been acquitted.

Dragan Mitrovic was sentenced to 15 years in prison, while Zarko Milosevic was sentenced to nine years under a plea bargain agreement reached with the Prosecutor's Office for War Crimes.

Dragan Loncar, Mirko Opacic and Miroslav Milinkovic have been set free.

The War Crimes Prosecution and the defendants have the right to appeal the verdict before the Appellate Court in Belgrade.

The remains of 13 civilians killed were found in a mass grave, next to an abandoned slaughterhouse in Sotin, in April 2013.
