"Positive developments, but LGBT community lives in fear"

Boban Stojanovic stressed that this year's parade will be crucial as a show of commitment by the state institutions to protecting the rights of its citizens, the Belgrade Pride Organizing Committee said in a statement.

"Despite some positive development, the LGBT community continues to live in fear of being rejected and stigmatized, and for that reason still not ready to speak up about its problems," underlined Stojanovic.

The visit to Brussels, organized by Civil Rights Defenders, provided an opportunity to share opinions about the current events in Serbia and the steps taken by the Serbian government, civil society organizations and the media to bring the country closer to the EU and its values.

The delegation from Serbia also met with the representatives of several EP groups and the office of European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn.
