More than ton of cocaine seized, Serbian citizen arrested

A joint operation by the Serbian, Spanish and Croatian police resulted in a seizure of 1.1 t of cocaine, Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said on Thursday.

More than ton of cocaine seized, Serbian citizen arrested

The cocaine was found on a yacht in Spanish waters and it came from South America and was headed for Western Europe, Stefanovic said, adding that three people had been arrested in the operation, one Serbian and two Croatian citizens, on suspicion of cocaine trafficking.

The value of the cocaine is estimated at EUR 44 million, the minister noted, adding that a number of other members of that organized crime ring had been arrested in Valencia.

It was one of the biggest joint operations of the three police forces targeting narcotics trafficking from South America to Europe, he pointed out.
