Defense minister suspected of conflict of interest

Gasic, who is one of the ruling SNS party's vice presidents, told BIRN that there was no conflict of interest.

"Persons related to whom? Well I cannot disown my family," he was quoted as saying.

The weekly noted that the Council for Anti-Corruption recently published a report on the ownership structure and control of the media which, among other things, shows that his TV Plus, because of the multi-year blockade of the account, operates through his wife's company..

BIRN and the Center for Investigative Reporting of Serbia (CINS) have come into possession of new documents that showed not only that Gasic gave money from the city budget to members of his family, but that the gains that his family firms thus achieved significantly increased since the SNS has been in power, writes the weekly.

According to the Business Registers Agency, Gasics own two advertising agencies, a company for the production of television programs, and three television stations.
