Serbia committed to EU membership - PM

"Opening of (accession negotiations) chapters for Serbia will suggest a realistic picture of Serbian society," Vucic said, adding that "economic reforms and fiscal consolidation measures have made it possible for indicators of Serbia's economy to be almost in line with the standards of the EU single market."

Also on Friday, the PM conferred with Austrian and Italian ambassadors in Belgrade Johannes Aigner and Giuseppe Manzo, who informed him that all EU-member countries have responded to invitation to take part in the "Friends of Serbia" meeting in Brussels on May 18.

As the ambassadors put it, the aim of the Brussels meeting, which was initiated by Austria and Italy, is to encourage acceleration of Serbia's EU path, above all by opening the chapters, said the statement.
