"EU expects progress in foreign policy alignment"

The EU official wrote that Serbia has taken on the obligation to gradually align its positions with EU's common foreign and security policy.

“We are keen to see progress in this area and we are also keen to maintain and develop the dialogue with Serbia on a range of CFSP issues,” notes the message read by Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport.

“I welcome the Serbian government's commitment to EU accession as its priority strategic goal.” Mogherini said, and added, “I expect that Serbia will be able to open the first chapters in accession negotiations this year."

“I also welcome Serbia's commitment to the shared values of democracy, rule of law and respect for fundamental rights. This gains added significance during a year in which Serbia holds the chairmanship in office of the OSCE,” reads the message.

Mogherini mentioned the "fast changing world where the EU and Serbia face serious new security threats." According to her, these threats are particularly "in the East and in the South."

The EU official also noted that Serbia participates in a number of EU peacekeeping missions in Africa where it helps "fight pirates and reestablish stability."

Addressing the conference on Wednesday, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that Serbia supports EU's foreign policy "in everything, except when it comes to sanctions against Russia."
