It also expects the European Commission and the EU member states to consent to a soonest possible opening of the chapters, the government press office said in a statement.

The EU commissioner fo neighborhood policy and enlargement negotiations said that previous experience in the enlargement process has demonstrated that new EU member states need to be full-fledged members from day one, and that, for that reason, the opening of the chapters is the best way to make progress in the process of preparing for membership.

It is also important to present to the citizens the specific benefits that Serbia will obtain from membership, he added.

The ministers reiterated that European Union membership is a strategic objective of the government and that Serbia has done much in the accession process so far, the statement said.
