Serbian Railways receives Russian machines

Deputy head of the Russian national railway company RZD International Masurbek Sultanov said in the town of Ruma on Friday that the Russian side had honored its obligation and delivered the machines within the deadline.

These are the latest designs that have no match in the world, in quality or speed, Sultanov stated.

A contract for the start of the work on the first section of the railroad, from Ruma to Golubinci, will be signed in 15 days. The project will comprise 6 sections 112 km long, whose construction is listed in Annex 2 of the loan agreement, he noted, adding that the Russian side was ready to start the work immediately.

Besides the railroad between Belgrade and Pančevo, which is already under construction, the work on the mentioned 6 sections has yet to start, along with two other sections, one between Stara Pazova and Novi Beograd and the other being the Serbian part of the railroad between Belgrade and Bar, Sultanov pointed out.

Serbian Railways Executive Director for Infrastructure Predrag Janković told reporters that the deadline for the repairs and modernization of all six sections would be cut down from 44 months to 27 thanks to the machines from Russia.

The Russian equipment will first be employed in the reconstruction and modernization of six sections along Corridor 10 with a total length of 112 km, as well as on the railroad between the Pančevo bridge and the main station in Pančevo.

Trains currently travel at speeds of 30-60 km/h along these six sections and the repairs should put the speed limit back to 120 km/h.
