Croat minority "satisfied with position in Serbia"

BELGRADE President Tomislav Nikolic talked in Belgrade on Friday with representatives of the Croat national minority in Serbia. According to the president's press office stated, they "underlined that the position of that minority in Serbia is satisfactory." Croat minority "satisfied with position in Serbia" Nikolic said that changes have been launched in Serbia that cannot be halted, noting that it is impossible that someone else comes to power that could deteriorate relations between the Serbian people as a majority in Serbia and citizens of other nationalities. Representatives of the Croat minority underscored that the position of that minority in Serbia is satisfactory. The rights enshrined in the Constitution in the domains of culture, education, broadcasting, the official use of languages are mostly being implemented, representatives of that minority stressed. However, there is room for improvement concerning the implementation of the set standards through coordination and enhanced efforts of all interested parties, said representatives of the Croat minority, adding that could take the form of investments in the facilities of the Croat minority. One of such projects could be the adaptation of the building that serves as the seat of the Cultural Institute Vojvodina's Croats in Subotica, which was purchased by the Republic of Croatia. President Nikolic and representatives of the Croat minority agreed that it is in the interest of both Serbia and Croatia to ensure better relations in all possible ways, and that there is always room for improving cooperation even further. The delegation of the Croat national minority comprised President of the Democratic Alliance of Croats in Vojvodina (DSHV) Petar Kuntic and President of the Croat National Council Slaven Bacic, and Director of the Cultural Institute of Vojvodina's Croats Tomislav Zigmanov.
