BELGRADE Minister of Energy Zorana Mihajlovic said on Monday that China will invest USD 10 billion in Central and Eastern European countries. Serbia will try to get as much money as possible for its projects, Mihajlovic noted. Minister who announced EUR 10,000 bn investment "uninformed" Her statement on Monday came after her fellow cabinet minister and SNS official, Milan Bacevic, said over the weekend that China intended to invest "EUR 10,000 billion" in the Balkans. Mihajlovic said that Bacevic was "mostly likely not well informed." “The sum of USD 10 billion was agreed a year and a half ago,” Mihajlovic said in a statement to Tanjug. According to Mihajlovic, a part of that sum will be earmarked for the modernization of the thermal power plant Kostolac. "The most important thing for us is that we have the working group that coordinates all projects, headed by the Minister (of Transport Aleksandar) Antic. The (Belgrade-Bar) railway will be built, we will talk about Djerdap III, we will try to use that money for our needs," Mihajlovic said. She at the same time spoke against Bacevic's appraisal that Serbia "should not take part in the South Stream discussion." "Serbia will not stand aside when it comes to the construction of the South Stream pipeline. The country in the past suffered economic and energy sector damage because politicians stood aside," the minister noted. Mihajlovic also stated that Serbia is "an integral part of the construction of the South Stream pipeline, just as it wants to be a part of the EU, and will therefore negotiate both with Russia and the EU."
