THE HAGUE The Hague Tribunal will deliver a verdict in a case against Serb Radical Party (SRS) leader Vojislav Seselj on October 30. Seselj is charged with crimes against Croats and Muslims in Croatia, Vojvodina and Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1991 until 1993. Verdict in Seselj case to be delivered on October 30 He is accused of expulsion of non-Serbs on political, racial, and religious grounds, deportation and inhumane acts and crimes against humanity. The SRS leader is also charged with violation of laws and customs of war – killings, torture, cruel treatment, reckless destruction of villages and unjustifiable despoliation, destruction of religious buildings and despoliation of public and private property in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Vojvodina. In their closing argument, prosecutors requested from the court to find Seselj guilty and sentence him to 28 years in prison. Seselj, who has been representing himself at the trial, said in his closing argument that he should be acquitted “because there is not a single reason” to convict him. The SRS leader’s trial started in November 2007 after an initial unsuccessful attempt and his hunger strike. Seselj has been in custody in Scheveningen since February 24, 2003 when he voluntarily surrendered himself to the Hague Tribunal.
