“Those responsible for aflatoxin affair will be punished”

BELGRADE An emergency session of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), called by SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic, was held on Saturday in Belgrade. SNS deputy leader Igor Mirovic said after the session that those responsible for mistakes in ministries and state organs would be punished. “Those responsible for aflatoxin affair will be punished” The session started a little after 11:00 CET and the main topic of the session was the aflatoxin affair. Mirovic told reporters that Vucic would announce names of those responsible and concrete measures against them on Monday. He stressed that he could not give any names and that the SNS wanted to gather all relevant data and make right decisions that would be presented to the public on Monday. Vucic met with Agriculture Minister Goran Knezevic earlier on Saturday. After the meeting Knezevic said that he had informed the SNS leader about all aspects of the affair, his actions and what could be expected in the following period. The minister said that he had informed Vucic about possible mistakes made in the food safety system. He added that he had also touched on the “witch-hunt” against him in media and political context of the affair. “The leader told me certain things as well. We had a long talk and after the Presidency session on Monday, the leader will address the public and offer his solution for the case,” Knezevic said. After the SNS Presidency meeting, the SNS Main Board will hold a session. The agriculture minister said earlier he was ready to take responsibility and resign if he was the most to blame. “If it turns out that my responsibility is the biggest, I am fully prepared to take responsibility and resign and I have told this to First Deputy Prime Minister Vucic and Prime Minister Ivica Dacic,” Knezevic explained.
