BELGRADE Serbia and Russia signed in Belgrade on Wednesday an agreement related to the competition protection policy. It is meant to contribute to the advancement of antitrust policy and the development of a free trade in Serbia. Serbia and Russia join forces against monopolies The agreement was signed by Vesna Jankovic, chairman of the Serbia's Committee for Protection of Competition, and Igor Artemiev, head of the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service of Russia, in the presence of Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Chepurin and Chairman of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Milos Bugarin. Jankovic expressed hope that the agreement will open a new chapter in promoting the relations between the two institutions. Serbia's Committee for Protection of Competition is one of the youngest representatives in the society of European and world bodies for protection of competition, and after only six years of existence it managed to become recognizable in the international arena, Jankovic said. She underlined that by the adoption of the first law on competition protection in 2005, and the second one in 2009, Serbia expressed an unambiguous desire to follow the development dynamics of competition protection in developed countries, and harmonize its standards with the European and widely accepted world standards. “The implementation of the rules of competition protection is no more an internal issue, but an international obligation,” Jankovic said. Artemiev expressed satisfaction over the agreement, adding that the two institutions will exchange experience regarding the market behavior rules.
