KOSOVSKA MITROVICA Two Serbs were attacked on Thursday afternoon on the road leading from Kosovska Mitrovica to Suvi Do, in northern Kosovo and Metohija. The Serbs sustained injuries when attacked by at least three ethnic Albanians, Tanjug learned from the Kosovo police, KPS. Two Serbs assaulted by group of ethnic Albanians According to the police, this incident is qualified as "serious disruption of public order", and that an investigation had been launched. As one of the victims stated, the attackers had a pistol that one of the assailants used to strike one of the Serbs in the head. The injured were hospitalized at the health center in northern part of the ethnically divided town of Kosovska Mitrovica, but were released from hospital later in the day. One of the attackers was unofficially identified with his intials of G.R., and is said to be a former member of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). Kosovska Mitrovica Mayor Krstimir Pantic condemned the incident, and said it represented "continued violence against Serbs and an attempt to force them to move out of the only Serb village in the municipality". Pantic explained that the motive behind the attack was the fact that 36 Serb families would be given new homes in Suvi Do in the coming days, and added that the families had previously found refuge in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica as IDPs. The mayor also claimed that one of the attackers was "known to the police", and described him as "a man with terrorist past", who had also on previous occasions "often caused conflicts with Kosovo Serbs".
