"There can be no peace, stability in Balkans without Serbia"

There can be no peace and stability in the Balkans without Serbia - just as there can be none in the EU if it does not encompass the Balkans, says Ivica Dacic.

"There can be no peace, stability in Balkans without Serbia"

He reiterated the country's determination to be military neutral and not join NATO "or any other military alliance," noting that Serbia has the highest possible level of cooperation with NATO that a country which does not wish to join can have, and that this is taking place through the Partnership for Peace program "and other instruments."

"Neutrality does not mean isolation," Dacic said, addressing the international conference "Western Security Architecture and Serbia - Challenges and Dilemmas" in Belgrade on Wednesday.

Dacic recalled that Serbian soldiers have participated in numerous UN and EU peace missions.

According to him, "security threats do not care for borders and memberships" in some organization - "and that is why as much cooperation as possible is necessary, as no country can solve problems alone."

In this respect, Serbia shares responsibility with others, which it demonstrated during the migrant crisis, Dacic said.

The minister said that Serbia wants to have constructive dialogue with everyone in the region in order to achieve peace and stability and to pursue stronger economic integration, as well as respecting UN principles when dealing with contentious issues.

According to Dacic, "there is no need to go to war, it's enough to look for interests."
