Belgrade also had 19 percent more foreign tourists, most of them coming from Turkey, while Israelis had the greatest number of overnight stays - 55,336, which is 649 percent more than last year. Tourists from China are next on the list, with 128 percent more overnight stays from January to June.

According to Popovic, Belgrade is attractive to tourists as one of the oldest European cities that offers "a good atmosphere" - and is "a must-see" culture capital in the making, and an important historical location.
