Then PM, now President Aleksandar Vucic announced earlier this year that Mali would soon step down as mayor, as it was "impossible for him to do his work because of the campaign against him."

Although there have been reports about Mali taking over as Ana Brnabic's cabinet chief once she becomes prime minister, "this most likely won't happen," the daily said. Instead, he will be back in the cabinet as deputy PM in charge of investments, the article added.

The paper cited a source who remarked that "it is little known that Mali is in charge of relations with Arab countries that make up a significant portion of investments in Serbia - so he will effectively only continue to head something that is already known to him."

Serbia's next government will probably have two new ministries - of ecology, set to be headed by Socialist Goran Trivan, and of EU integration, with Minister Jadranka Joksimovic at its helm, another daily, Vecernje Novosti, is reporting on Wednesday.
