Tuesday's opening of two new chapters in the EU accession talks will be a message that Serbia is a stable country that is carrying out reforms in various areas.

"Opening of 2 EU chapters message that Serbia is stable"

Two very significant chapters are to be opened - Chapter 7 on intellectual property and Chapter 29 on the customs union, Joksimovic told RTS.

She explained that the intellectual property chapter covers copyright and related rights, industrial property rights, the fight against piracy, protection of consumers, denomination of geographical origin and branding of goods.

These are important matters, especially for the people from the field of culture, innovation and science, Joksimovic said, as quoted by the Serbian government.

Joksimovic said that Chapter 29 was important for the whole economy because it means that Serbia, by fulfilling the standards in this area at the moment when it becomes EU member, it will adhere to the unimpeded movement of goods within the EU, and for the goods from third countries it will apply the same tariffs and quotas as the EU.

She "stressed that Serbia has a relatively good pace of opening of negotiation chapters, and pointed out that additional negotiating positions have been prepared for which she believes will be opened by the end of the year during the Estonian presidency."
