Car bomb in Serbian town kills driver "with criminal record"

The daily said it learned unofficially that the victim had a long criminal police record.

He was first arrested for weapons possession during the 1990s, and was later, in 2002, suspected of committing a murder. Trninic avoided arrest by fleeing to Germany, where he was detained, and then extradited.

He was released from prison in 2015, and then shot and wounded in February 2016.

According to the report, Trninic was alive when an ambulance crew took him to the hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.

Locals are said to be "very upset" by the incident. The police blocked the highway as "help was being awaited from experts from Belgrade," another daily, Vecernje Novosti, reported on Tuesday.
