Vucic brings EU flag, removed by Nikolic, back to Presidency
The EU flag was removed from the presidency "several years ago" by Vucic's predecessor Tomislav Nikolic. The flag was first brought to the building on March 2, 2012, when Serbia became a candidate for EU membership, and in that way gained the right to use "some symbols of Brussels," writes the daily.
At the time, the EU flag was also displayed on the Serbian government building, the National Assembly, and the Belgrade City Assembly.
The paper cites EU's website, that states the flag represents "an alliance of European states" and symbolizes "both the European Union and, more broadly, the identity and unity of Europe."
The design features a circle of 12 "gold stars" on a blue background, which stand for "the ideals of unity, solidarity and harmony among the peoples of Europe."
