"I would like to inform Edi Rama and Hashim Thaci that Enver Hoxha is dead, and that the idea of a Greater Albania, which belongs to the dark fascist past of that part of our Balkan peninsula, is forever buried along with him," Djuric said in a statement for the media.

The Serbian official noted that "there have always been more of those ready to bury such an idea, that those ready to revive such a fascist idea from the past - and that is why we should talk about how to connect people better, how to provide them with better lives, both Albanians and Serbs - instead of Tirana's representatives and separatists in Pristina playing with the fate of the entire region like arsonists."

"It is rude to eye parts of other people's territory, and that's why, keep your hands off Serbia," Djuric said.

Asked whether any European officials have reacted to Rama's statement, Djuric said it was high time for international representatives "to finally take the matches away from the arsonists in Tirana and Pristina."

As for Hashim Thaci's renewed threat of a genocide lawsuit against Serbia, Djuric said it showed the way Pristina would use its possible membership in international organizations."

"Luckily, our southern province will never become a member of the UN or any other organization of this kind, while the separatists in Pristina should deal with the economy, corruption, the grave problems that exist there, instead of causing more tensions," Djuric concluded.

"If Edi Rama really said that, then that's a very dangerous statement, one that contributes to nothing good in the region, nor to anything the EU stands for, not to good-neighborly relations," Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic told reporters in Belgrade on Tuesday.

According to Stefanovic, Rama's statement is "irresponsible, effectively inciting conflicts and urging the undermining of our country's constitutional order."

"We always say - regardless of the various aspirations and ambitions - that Kosovo is a part of Serbia, and always will be. Those thinking about unlawfully taking parts of our territory, or redrawing the borders by force, must realize that this will be viewed as a hostile act toward Serbia," he said.

Stefanovic urged politicians "across Europe" to realize that lasting peace, prosperity and economic development can only be built and based on partner relations, mutual respect, "but not on violations of international law."
