Putin indirectly accuses US of Syria false flag

The Russian leader indirectly accused the United States of being behind the alleged chemical weapons attack in Idlib last week, which was followed by a US attack on a Syrian military base.

Putin, who spoke in Moscow after a meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, added that the situation reminded him of 2003 when US officials in the UN spoke about "the presumed chemical weapons found in Iraq."

"The military campaign was subsequently launched in Iraq and it ended with the devastation of the country, the growth of the terrorist threat and the appearance of Islamic State on the world stage,” he said.

Putin also revealed that his country "plans to address the corresponding UN structure in The Hague and call on the international community to thoroughly investigate all those reports and take appropriate action based on the results of such a probe."

He also said that Syrian authorities were prepared to allow international experts to their military bases with an investigation.

Putin's remarks came hours after US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who is this Tuesday visiting Moscow, said that Russia "must" choose between siding with his country and its allies, or with Syria, Iran, and Hezbollah.
