Authorities appealing on migrants to go to reception centers

Most of those still refusing to go to these centers are currently staying in the warehouses behind the city's main train station. The reason, they say, is the fear of being sent back to Presevo, a town in southern Serbia, or the country's border with Bulgaria, from which they would be "illegally deported."

These migrants "don't want to stay far from Serbia's northern border (with Hungary) across which they wish to reach (Western) Europe as soon as possible," Tanjug has reported.

The migrants say they are currently in need of adequate clothes and shoes the most.

But the Commissariat continues to appeal on everyone staying outdoors to register for accommodation in the country's reception centers. Despite the fact these facilities are currently operating almost at capacity (some 6,000 places), the Commissariat's representatives said that no migrant would be turned back.

With the help of several organizations, transportation has also been provided from Belgrade to the centers in Krnjaca, Sid, Presevo, Subotica, and elsewhere, the Commissariat said.
