was founded in 1989 as a youth radio broadcasting to Belgrade audiences and has
since grown into a company which includes: a regional radio and a national
television network, a Web site and an internet providing service, a book publishing
department, a CD label and a cultural centre, Cinema Rex.
B92’s
commitment to responsible journalism and positive social change have earned it
international renown: the organisation and its members have won a number of
prestigious international awards for journalistic courage and advocacy of human
right. the organisation is also the
subject of Matthew Collins’ best-selling This is Serbia Calling..
Mission statement
B92
aims to develop into a hybrid commercial station with a public service mission.
Its goals include:

political and economic independence;

and maintaining European standards in terms of quality, financial stability and
company organisation;
· Becoming
the highest quality media outlet in Serbia.
Ownership
B92
today is a privately owned company, 52% owned by former and current employees,
and 48% owned
by the Media Development Loan Fund, an international corporation supporting the
development of independent media in societies in transition.
Efficient
management and maintenance of an independent editorial policy is secured
through the B92 Trust, which comprises 16 founders and current managers of B92
and holds chief decision-making powers.
B92
Television was
launched in September 2000. After little more than three years in the market it
has assumed the position of the fourth most popular station among its target
audience (urban 15-54). B92.television’s current coverage is about eighty per
cent of the total population of Serbia (expansion is planned pending licensing)
and broadcasts sixteen hours a day with a program of news and current affairs,
locally and internationally produced entertainment, documentary programs and
sports. The station employs 220 people, both full and part time.

Radio has
been the leader on the Belgrade market since 1999. It currently has 400,000
listeners in the Belgrade region, about 33 per cent of the total audience in a
market which has more than eighty stations. The station broadcasts around the
clock a mixture of news and current affairs, entertainment, phone-in programs
and music. It has recently expanded coverage to cover the prosperous northern
province of Vojvodina. B92.Radio employs about 80 people.
B92
Net has been
the leading local Internet site since 1996. At present the average number of
page views per day is 250,000, and this number is steadily rising. The Alexa
service ranked B92’s site at number 4,107 of more than forty million sites
worldwide, making it the best positioned local site. Key pages include www.b92.net/news in three languages
(Serbian, English and Albanian), www.b92.net/sport,
widely regarded as the best sports site in Serbian, and B92Market which
provides an opportunity for thousands of visitors at home and abroad to order
merchandise from B92 and our clients and business partners. The department
employs six people.
