Two people were killed and four were injured in a shooting in the center of Paris, when a man in his sixties opened fire on pedestrians.

Television reported that the attacker was arrested, and that the police called on the public to stay away from the part of the city where the shooting took place.

Police have set up a security fence and emergency services are on the scene. The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, thanked the police for their "decisive" intervention during the "terrible attack" and expressed her condolences to the victims. For now, the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
