Russia's immediate reaction, Norway involved

Almost ten Russians have been arrested in Norway in the last seven days for violating the ban on flying drones or the ban on photographing objects that are considered sensitive and the shooting of which is prohibited.

Russia described the arrests as politically motivated, while Norway said they were legal.

The arrests came as Norway stepped up security measures over suspected sabotage at the Nord Stream gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea.

In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs states: "We believe that the verdicts against the Russians are politically motivated and have nothing to do with the principles of fair and impartial justice."

After the Norwegian ambassador had a conversation with the Russians, the official of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lars Gjemble, also spoke. "Our ambassador took the opportunity to inform Russia about Norwegian criminal legislation," he said.

"He also reviewed the cases that are currently being processed in the Norwegian courts. The meeting took place in a good spirit," he said.
