Lithuanians fear Putin plans to "test NATO"

The country's foreign minister, Linas Linkevicius, thus said he was "very afraid" for the Baltic Sea, as well as for the Syrian city of Aleppo, the BBC has reported.

Lithuania believes "its dark view of Russian intentions is justified by its geography and its history," the broadcaster said.

The article noted that there is a mural showing "Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin locked in a passionate embrace" in Vilnius, whereas "the government naturally expresses its views in less lurid terms but shares the basic concern of the artist that Trump and Putin are too close for comfort."

"Russia is not a superpower, it's a super problem," Linkevicius told the BBC.

"Russia insists it is not a threat, arguing that NATO is responsible for stoking regional tensions by expanding eastwards and moving its military hardware towards Russian borders," said the British broadcaster.
