But the adviser did not say whether Flynn, the 57-year-old former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, has accepted the offer. The AP describes Flynn as "a fervent supporter of Trump" during the campaign, and as somebody known for his previous criticism of the White House and the Pentagon, in the context of the various aspects of the national security policy, including the way the U.S. has chosen to fight against Islamic State.
The agency said that Flynn thinks the threat posed by IS requires "a more aggressive U.S. military" - and also believes that Washington should work "more closely" with Moscow.
The agency noted that Flynn was in Moscow last year where he joined Russian President Vladimir Putin in a celebration of RT - "a Russian government-controlled television channel" - and that he "later explained he had been paid for taking part in the event, but brushed aside concerns that he was aiding a Russian propaganda effort."
The U.S. agency also published a photograph from this event that, took place on December 10, 2015, showing Flynn with Putin - with Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica seated at their table.
