"They agreed to hold the meeting in early August, it will take place in the Russian Federation, but the city and the exact date are so far being considered," Peskov told reporters.

As for the rumors that the two leaders would be meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, the spokesperson said:

"No, it’s not true: a trilateral meeting of the presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran will be held in Baku."

After the strain in relations between the two countries in the wake of Turkey's downing last fall of a Russian bomber that was taking part in the Syria operation, Putin and Erdogan spoke again on the phone in late June.

The conversation, their first in seven months, lasted 45 minutes. The two presidents spoke, among other things, about meeting "face to face."
