Hacker from Kosovo admits to giving U.S. military data to IS

He on Wednesday admitted to accessing a server of a company that stored personally identifiable information databases belonging to tens of thousands of its customers.

Ferzi also admitted to providing this information to Islamic State member Junaid Hussain, aka Abu Hussain al-Britani, who in August 2015 posted a document with personally identifiable information of some 1,300 U.S. military and other personnel.

The U.S. Department of Justice said on its website that the document stated, in part: "We are in your emails and computer systems, watching and recording your every move, we have your names and addresses, we are in your emails and social media accounts, we are extracting confidential data and passing on your personal information to the soldiers of the khilafah, who soon with the permission of Allah will strike at your necks in your own lands!”

Ferizi, a 20-year-old described in the media as "a citizen of Kosovo" who was arrested in Malaysia and extradited to the U.S., on Wednesday said he gave the U.S. military personnel data to Islamic State with the understanding the terrorist organization would "hit them hard."

“Ferizi admitted to stealing the personally identifiable information of over 1,000 U.S. servicemembers and federal employees, and providing it to ISIL with the understanding that they would incite terrorist attacks against those individuals. The case against Ferizi is the first of its kind, representing the nexus of the terror and cyber threats," said U.S. Assistant Attorney General John Carlin.
