B92 reporter first Serbian journalist in liberated Palmyra
Forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad last month took Palmyra from Islamic State, who occupied the town in May 2015.Assad said at the time the outcome represented a success of the Syrian army strategy in its fight against terrorists.
The jihadis destroyed a good portion of the cultural heritage of the town located in the desert, some 200 kilometers northeast of Damascus, that is included in the UNESCO world heritage list.
