EU foreign policy chief "sees no signs of new Cold War"

Last week, Medvedev spoke at the Munich Security conference to say his country and the west had fallen into a new Cold War.

Reuters said that his remarks "came after the powers involved in the Syrian conflict agreed to a cessation of hostilities that would let humanitarian aid be delivered," and that Mogherini today "also called on all the parties to that agreement to stick to their commitment."

The report quoted Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius as saying: "Russia is playing a different game. Aleppo is becoming a litmus test of everything that is going on in Syria."

The agency noted that "a Russian-backed offensive by Syrian government troops and their allies around Aleppo has yet to stop."
