Turkish FM dismisses "lies of Soviet propaganda machine"

"Nobody believes the lies of the Soviet propaganda machine," Davutoglu said head of his trip to Azerbaijan.

The AP agency concluded that this was "a sign that the tension between Russia and Turkey will further escalate" in the wake of Turkey's shooting down of a Russian warplane.

Davutoglu also said that his country "intends to increase cooperation in the field of energy with Azerbaijan, but stressed that these efforts are not linked to disagreements with Russia."

He added that Russian operations in Syria "hinder Turkey's efforts to clean up its border with Syria of Islamic State fighters."

Earlier on Wednesday, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov held a briefing in Moscow, presenting "evidence" that Erdogan and his family are involved in the illegal oil trade with Islamic State.

"We know the value of the Turkish president's word. Erdogan would not admit to his guilt even if his face was smeared with the stolen oil," Antonov remarked.

Photos of oil trucks, videos of air strikes on IS oil storage facilities and maps detailing the movement of smuggled oil were presented during the briefing, RT reported, adding that "more evidence is to be published on the (defense) ministry's website in the coming days."

The United States reacted by defending Turkey as its "great partner" in fighting IS terrorists.

“We flatly reject any notion that the Turks are somehow working with ISIL. Preposterous. And really very, kind of ridiculous,” Pentagon spokesman Steve Warren said, according to RT.
