Serbians kidnapped in Libya "located" - reports

The newspaper reported in its print edition for Tuesday that "intensive negotiations" are under way between Serbian security services and the Libyan authorities with a group suspected of kidnapping Sladjana Stankovic and Jovan Stepic.

According to the report, "there have been assurances from the Libyan side that the Serbian embassy employees could soon be released."

Another Belgrade daily, Politika, writes today that Serbia's Ambassador to Libya Oliver Potezica was "on his way to Tunisia in order to send his family back to Serbia," while Sladjana Stankovic had asked to be withdrawn from her post.

In the meantime, the Security Council of Sabratha announced that it was not notified in advance about the Serbian diplomatic convoy, and stated it holds the Serbian ambassador "responsible for the kidnapping," as well as the relevant state institutions who did not consult with this council.

According to unofficial information reported by the Belgrade paper, "there are indications that the Serbian citizens were kidnapped by certain criminal groups and that the motive is financial, not political."
