Russian Su-30 was in Turkish space avoiding "missile system"
"When the aircraft was passing along the Turkish border, the onboard equipment set off an alarm indicating the plane was being targeted by some kind of air defense system,” Bondarev told Komsomolskaya Pravda daily.“The pilot had to take a split-second decision to perform an anti-missile maneuver. Well, (the plane) went a little bit into Turkish airspace. We acknowledged it frankly,” the general added.
He also told the daily that Russia has sent missile systems to Syria to protect its military forces there, Reuters reported.
"Fighter jets could be hijacked in countries neighboring Syria and used to attack Russian forces," Bondarev said, and added:
"We have calculated all possible threats. We have sent not only fighter jets, bombers and helicopters, but also missile systems."
Russia launched air strikes against Islamic State (IS) in Syria on September 30, and is using missiles and bombs with advanced guidance system in its anti-terrorist campaign.
