Silvio Berlusconi was "only joking" when he said that President Vladimir Putin had offed him the position of Russia's economy minister.

Berlusconi was "joking" about Russian cabinet job

Berlusconi's statement about "the offer" to serve in the Russian government was previously widely reported in media around the world.

Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov, meanwhile, said that Putin had offered his support to his friend, but "did not exactly have a job in mind."

Interfax is reporting that Putin's support was "exclusively metaphorical" and "not a formal offer to be given any official position."

Peskov also pointed out that foreigners cannot be members of the Russian government.
