EP approves new European Commission
The European parliament (EP) has elected with 423 votes in favor and 209 against the new European Commission, headed by Jean-Claude Juncker.

On the eve of the election of a 28-member Commission he addressed a plenary session of the parliament in Strasbourg and promised a comprehensive investment package by the end of the year, but also new budget rules.He called on the EU to support a 300 billion-euro investment package aimed at stimulating the economy and employment, and said strict austerity measures would not automatically revive them.
"Citizens are losing faith. Extremists on the left and right are nipping at our heels. We are last-chance Europe. Let's seize this chance," Reuters quoted him as saying.
Juncker's predecessor Barroso said in his farewell speech to the European parliamentarians that he was leaving behind a united, open, and stronger Europe, ready to face the challenges of today.
