"Russia failed to divide Western world"

"Russia has always had a tendency to put European and American policies against each other, to treat some countries better, and some worse. This time, it failed. Russia has failed to divide the Western world, and that will be the subject of deep analysis in Russian political circles. In this I see a chance," Komorowski told Poland's TVP television.

He went on to say that the aim of Western sanctions was for Russia "to once again begin to respect international law and as soon as it happens cooperation in all fields should be renewed."

"In Russia itself hawks and doves are clashing. The hawks currently lead, but the time will come for the doves as well. Russia was able to lead a pragmatic policy, and I think that President Putin is looking to take a step back," said Komorowski, and continued, commenting on fears that Russia could intervene in Ukraine:

"Putin is constantly analyzing whether it is worthwhile to take a step back. I do not believe that anyone can think they could convince someone by sending 'peacekeeping tanks to the neighbors'."

The Polish president said that he can imagine a military intervention, along with claims that the forces were peacekeepers.

"However, even if such an army are called angels, it will not change the act of aggression into an act of peace," said he.
