Tanjug repoted that "RT says that at least 2,000 civilians were killed and 40,000 houses destroyed during the bombing, under the humanitarian pretext of preventing instability spreading in the context of the Kosovo conflict."

“We have reason to believe that the leading European countries understand their responsibility for what is happening in Ukraine. We want the U.S. to join in understanding this responsibility,” Lavrov said during a joint press conference with Bulgaria's Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski in Sofia on Monday.

Lavrov, who is on a two-day visit to Bulgaria, urged international partners to put aside their ambitions and think about saving civilian lives in the southeast of Ukraine.

He stressed that a ceasefire in southeastern Ukraine must not be delayed under any circumstances if new casualties were to be avoided.

The Russian foreign minister believes a truce would help start peace negotiations that should set a political roadmap for resolving the crisis while ensuring respect for the rights of all regions in Ukraine.
