Leader of radical right-wing party to run in elections

Ukraine’s Central Election Commission has officially registered leader of the radical right-wing group Right Sector Dmitry Yarosh as a presidential candidate.

Yarosh and his family members had declared no income in their tax returns for 2013, said a commission member. This raised doubts about whether the sum of some USD 227,000 needed to register had been deposited by Yarosh personally.

But after Ukraine’s Oshchadbank confirmed that the sum was deposited by Yarosh personally, the commission registered him as presidential contender, ITAR-TASS reported.

20 candidates have been registered so far.

On March 12, a Russian court ordered the arrest of Yarosh in absentia on charges of public calls to terrorist and extremist activities done with the use of the mass media, the news agency said.
