German daily: Al-Qaeda "plotting attacks in Europe"

BERLIN "Al-Qaeda is plotting attacks on Europe's high-speed rail network," German newspaper Bild reported on Monday, citing intelligence sources. The terrorist network "could plant explosives on trains and tunnels or sabotage tracks and electrical cabling," AFP quoted the paper. German daily: Al-Qaeda "plotting attacks in Europe" Bild said the information came from the National Security Agency (NSA), which had listened in to a call involving top al-Qaeda operatives. According to this, "attacks on Europe's rail network was a central topic of this call." "Authorities in Germany have responded to the threat with discrete measures such as deploying plain-clothes police officers at key stations and on main routes," the news agency further quoted the daily.
