KABUL Four American soldiers have been killed in an attack on their base near the Afghan capital of Kabul, the BBC has reported. The deadly attack came "hours after the U.S. announced direct talks with the Taliban," this media outlet said, and added that a condition for the talks was for the Taliban "to renounce violence." Taliban attack U.S. base, four soldiers killed Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed it was this militant group that attacked Bagram, the largest military base for U.S. troops in the country. According to Mujahid, the Taliban "launched two big rockets at Bagram." The soldiers were killed by "indirect fire" from insurgents at the airbase, the BBC quoted U.S. officials as saying.
