LONDON More than 40 people have been killed in heavy clashes between Syrian rebels and President Bashar al-Assad’s troops on the outskirts of Damascus. London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights activists say there are casualties on both sides and that clashes are focused on opposition strongholds around the capital. 40 dead in clashes outside Damascus The group says at least 28 rebels and 13 soldiers have been killed. Fighting is also raging around the northern city of Aleppo and in the southern Daraa province, AP has reported.
