Approving a recommendation to allow Palestine to join the UN cultural agency UNESCO as a full-fledged member was "inexplicable", says Hillary Clinton. The U.S. secretary of state spoke on Wednesday in the Dominican Republic and urged the issue of the status of Palestine to be returned to the negotiating table. Clinton says UNESCO decision "inexplicable" Clinton also did not rule out the possibility that her country could cut funds to UNESCO over its decision. "I would urge the governing body of UNESCO to think again before proceeding with that vote because the decision about status must be made in the United Nations and not in auxiliary groups that are subsidiary to the United Nations," she was quoted as saying. On Wednesday, Palestinians scored a diplomatic victory in a bid to have the territory recognized as a state, when a recommendation was approved by UNESCO board to accept Palestine as a member, while a vote from the full body is expected later this month.
