UN urges equal rights for LGBT population

UN Human Rights Council has adopted a resolution calling for equal rights for all people, regardless of their sexual orientation.

UN Human Rights Council has adopted a resolution calling for equal rights for all people, regardless of their sexual orientation. The resolution was adopted with 23 yeas and 19 nays, despite fierce opposition of African and Arab countries. Three countries did not vote. UN urges equal rights for LGBT population “All human beings are born free and are equal in rights and dignity,” it is said in the resolution. The UN Human Rights Council has also extended a mandate of its expert team which is looking into violation of human rights in Libya. The Council also noted that some of those violations were in fact crimes against humanity. The expert team determined earlier this month that the Libyan regime had committed crimes against humanity and war crimes in a conflict which has so far claimed between 10,000 and 15,000 lives.
