NATO has decided to extend its operation in Libya for another 90 days, it has been announced in Brussels. The western military alliance's secretary general made the announcement. NATO decides to extend Libya operation "This is a clear message to the Gaddafi regime - we are determined to continue with our operation to protect the people of Libya," said Anders Fogh Rasmussen. On March 31 NATO took over the military intervention against Libya's government forces loyal to Moammer Gaddafi after difficult negotiations among its members. The attacks, led by the U.S., started several weeks earlier. NATO's original commitment was to 90 days. This period expires at the end of June. Gaddafi in the meantime shows no sign that he is willing to end his own campaign against the armed rebellion in his country. (file)
